POSITION

The geographical position

The holiday home «Maison au Verger» is located between the villages of Milhac-de-Nontron and Saint-Pardoux-la-Rivière on a hill. Geographically, this is the triangle of the larger towns of Limoges, Angoulême and Périgueux, the latter being the capital (between 50 and 60 km away). All of these cities have airfields, the university town Limoges has an international railway station. Angoulême has a connection to the French express train TGV (2.5 hours drive from Paris).
In the town Saint-Pardoux-la-Rivière, 4 km away, you will find the most necessary: baker and butcher, supermarket, doctors, post office, bank machine and a recommended restaurant. The nearest larger towns are Nontron (north-east 15 km) and Thiviers (south-west 20 km). Here there are all shopping possibilities as well as supermarkets, worthwhile weekly markets and banks. The tourist town of Brantôme with its old abbey is located 24 km southwest.

The position of the Dordogne is geographically very protected. The Central Massif protects them from the north and east against the cooler continental climate, while to the south-west to the sea, the relatively flat hills give the warm sea breeze into the country. The prevailing microclimate is mild, allowing figs and artichokes to grow. There are also mushroom-pickers during the late summer and autumn, for which the Dordogne is known.

The air is crystal clear and clean, as there is no industry between this region and the Atlantic coast (air line about 80 km).
Compared to Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, the Dordogne is much further west, so that it is one hour brighter here in the evening.
